Sherry Wines Regulatory Council

_Puntos de Interés

Established in 1933, it was the first Regulatory Council of a Denomination of Origin to be constituted in Spain. Formed by wine producers and grape growers from the Marco de Jerez, it held its first session in August 1934 and in January 1935 published the first regulation of a Spanish denomination of origin, which served as a model for those subsequently created throughout the rest of the country.
Ten municipal districts have vineyards covered by the denomination of origin: Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa María, Sanlúcar de Barrameda, Chiclana de la Frontera, Chipiona, Puerto Real, Rota, Trebujena, San José del Valle, and Lebrija.
Among the functions of the Regulatory Council are the certification of the VOS and VORS age categories, the supervision of the solera and criaderas ageing system, and the regulation of the grape varieties authorised in the Marco.
