The Alameda Vieja was created in the 18th century as a promenade area. The Monumental Complex of the Alcázar de Jerez stands out prominently, an ancient Islamic fortress that houses a mosque, Arab baths, and buildings from other periods such as the olive oil mill and the Villavicencio Palace. Just to one side stands the González Byass-Tío Pepe Winery, founded in 1835. In the distance, the Tío Pepe weather vane stands out for its remarkable size. Among the jacaranda and orange trees, we make our way towards the San Salvador Cathedral, whose dome can be glimpsed from afar. Built mainly in the 18th century, it is a Baroque work with echoes of Gothic art. Facing the cathedral and thanks to its elevated position, a sweeping view opens up over the walled city, heir to the Islamic city: a maze of winding alleyways dotted with churches. To the left, the bell tower, whose lower section belonged to the original collegiate church, which stood on the very same site as the city's Great Mosque.
