Bodegas Hidalgo has been located in the historic centre of the city since its origins. The winery was built in the mid-19^th century in the architectural style of wineries known as “bodega cathedral” given its similarity to such religious constructions.

In the second half of the 19^th century the Hidalgo family commenced its winemaking activity starting with solera sherries and vineyards of their own property.

By the beginning of the 20th century D. Emilio Hidalgo e Hidalgo had a consolidated the business with offices in London and a presence in numerous other countries.  As from 1970, by now constituted as a limited company, the winery expanded its export business to include the UK, Netherlands, Germany and Austria as well as the USA, Japan, Denmark, Italy, France and Belgium.
