The Santiago Church gives its name to the neighbourhood in which it stands, one of the city's great flamenco landmarks. Its origins date back to an ancient hermitage founded by Alfonso X the Wise, built outside the walled perimeter of the medieval city, next to the Puerta del Olivillo.

The current church began construction at the end of the 15th century and was completed in the first half of the 16th century. It is a magnificent work begun in the Gothic style, to which Renaissance and Baroque elements were later added, enriching its architecture.

Inside, veneration is paid to the Señor del Prendimiento, the beloved Prendi, an image attributed to Francisco Camacho de Mendoza, created in the first half of the 18th century. His processional appearance on the night of Holy Wednesday is one of the most moving moments of the Jerez Holy Week
