Mercado Central de Abastos
The Central Food Market
Jerez’s Central Food Market is commonly know just as “The Market” and is Neo-Classical in style with constructive elements typical of the age, such as iron, glass, glazed ceramic and stone.
The base of the current building was designed by the municipal architect José Esteve y López and constructed between 1873 and 1885. It was built upon the site of the old San Francisco convent, seized after the assets of the church were confiscated and sold during the Mendizábal expropriations of 1835-1844
The Central Food Market is divided into three main areas: meat, fish and fruit & vegetables. It is interesting to visit and peruse fresh local produce from both land and sea.
