Montes de Propio

Los Montes de Propios de Jerez is a natural expanse of over 7,000 hectares located within the municipal boundaries of Jerez and forms part of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park. Various undertakings take place in this area, including forestry (cork production), hunting, livestock farming and beekeeping, as well as other activities related to nature and active tourism.

It includes the "Charco de los Hurones," a recreational forest area of great scenic value, and the Rojitán farmhouse, recently renovated for rural accommodation, is also worthy of mention. Los Montes de Propios contains a comprehensive network of nature trails that allow visitors to appreciate the scenic, ecological, and cultural values of both the Alcornocales Natural Park and the Intercontinental Mediterranean Biosphere Reserve to which it belongs. This diversity is evident not only in the values experienced along each trail, but also their length and accessibility, catering to the needs of all types of visitor.

The Plan for Public Use of Los Montes de Propios includes nine routes totaling 88.9 km. Safety and compatibility with the land management activities of Los Montes and the zoning regulations of the Alcornocales Natural Park have been taken into consideration in developing the plan and, as a result, a calendar of visits has been established based upon these parameters, with a maximum number of participants and the starting times for each.

The management and operations of Los Montes are carried out by "Explotaciones de los Montes de Propios Empresa Municipal S.A" (EMEMSA), a company belonging to Jerez City Council. Requests for authorization to visit should be submitted on the EMEMSA website:
